                              Koinobori Kaua'i  2025

Marking the 13th year since its inception, 600+ flying carp windsocks will once again dance in the wind throughout Kapaia Valley. Kapaia Foundation displays a koinobori in memory of each person who lived in Kapaia during its heyday, the 1930's, when Sugar was King! With Koinobori Kaua'i, we remember the hardworking sugar plantation immigrants who came to Hawaii with a dream for a better life. We celebrate their contribution to Hawaii's unique multicultural society and highlight the legacy that fulfilled their dream, the beautiful children of Hawaii. What better way to celebrate than to preserve a cultural tradition brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants, Children's Day! Old timers growing up  in Hawaii remember May 5 as Boy's Day. Times have changed and this joyful event is now known as Children's Day!
